Meetings and Educational Activities
The Ando Lab meets weekly for group meetings. The primary purpose of group meetings is to share research, practice presentation skills, and discuss lab business. Meetings are regularly attended by collaborators and guests. Invitations and agenda are sent out by Rob Miller, and feedback for presenters is collected using a survey designed by Haoyue Wang. We also hold monthly 3-minute presentations, in which each member gives a short presentation to pitch ideas and papers for journal club meetings. The purpose of these pitches is to practice identifying important scientific ideas and distilling the most compelling information. After paper pitches, the group votes to determine papers to be discussed in detail in a separate journal club meeting. The Ando Lab also meets frequently for the student-organized X-ray learning group (XLG). Led by Mike Patterson, the purpose of XLG is to earn advanced topics in X-ray science and structural biology by teaching each other.
